Wheelchair Basketball Game Abandoned After Fans Attack Each Other With Knives & Baseball Bats
Europe’s top wheelchair basketball tournament came to a violent halt in Zwickau, Germany Saturday as 60 fans attacked each other with knives and baseball bats during a game between Turkish rivals Galatasaray and Beşiktaş, according to Die Welt.
Seven people were hospitalized after the attack, which took place during the tournament’s fifth-place match. This is not the first time fans of the two wheelchair basketball teams have brawled; in 2012, police needed tear gas to disperse the wheelchair basketball hooligans.
RollingPlanet reports 50 of the hooligans tried escaping on a bus, but were caught by polizei.
