Arsenal face a battle to hold on to contract rebel

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger it seems, may now have to step up his attempts to hold Bacary Sagna back at the club. Reports in The Daily Mail have revealed that the French player is on the radar of Turkish giants Galatasaray, who are ready to offer him a bumper deal to lure him to the club.

Sagna is yet to sign a contract extension at the Emirates, which has alerted his suitors about his situation now that he is in the final six months of his stay and eligible to negotiate with other clubs. As a result, Gala have entered the scene with an intention to take him aboard, with the club offering him a mouth-watering £4.1m-a-year tax free four-year deal, which is a considerable improvement on his £3.6m-a-year taxed earnings.

The reports come as a huge shock to Arsenal, who are themselves only offering a two-year extension at the most, and that too without the promise of a salary hike. Galatasaray’s offering means that the Gunners will have to improve their offer considerably, else risk losing the player who on his day is considered as one of the best in his role in Europe. It also means that the north Londoners need to step up their chase for a replacement for the veteran soon, as this could well be his last season at the club.

Sampdoria striker Manolo Gabbiadini is being linked to a move to Galatasaray, according to reports in the Italian press.

Sport Mediaset has claimed that the Gala coach Roberto Mancini is keen to strengthen his attacking options, and has been tracking the 22-year-old as one of his transfer targets.

They claim that the Turkish outfit are prepared to offer around €12 million for the forward, however Gabbiadini’s agent has so far denied the rumours.

“I know that Gabbiadini really likes Roberto Mancini, but I believe that Sampdoria will certainly not surrender him in the January market,” stated agent Silvio Pagliari on calciomercato.it

Nevertheless, the move may prove to be complicated for Mancini’s side, as Gabbiadini is co-owned by Samp and Juventus.

When the Red Bulls get involved in the soccer silly season, they do it in style. First there was Xavi, with reports that New York captain Thierry Henry was pressing the club to make an approach for the Barcelona star. Now there are multiple stories linking them to target Didier Drogba again.

According to a report out of Turkey – where Drogba has been playing with Galatasaray – Red Bulls brass sat down with the star striker over dinner to talk about a potential move to New York. Sabah Spor reported that Red Bull Director of Global Soccer Gerard Houllier met with the Ivory Coast native on Jan. 3.

Drogba’s buddy and former Ivory Coast teammate Salomon Kalou said the former Chelsea man wants to finish his career in either New York or L.A., and the Red Bulls reportedly put him on their discovery list back in 2012.

He eventually ended up signing with the Turkish powerhouse last January. The 35-year-old Drogba will be out of contract by July; and while Galatasaray president Unal Aysal reportedly wants to re-sign Drogba, he could be back on the Red Bulls’ radar for the summer transfer window.

The coming MLS season is the last one on Henry’s current contract, although Red Bulls sporting director Andy Roxburgh has publicly opened the door for the possibility of an extension. After parting ways with Fabian Espindola, they also have Bradley Wright-Phillips and Tim Cahill at forward.
