Arsenal face a battle to hold on to contract rebel
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger it seems, may now have to step up his attempts to hold
Bacary Sagna back at the club. Reports in The
Daily Mail have revealed that the French player is on the radar of
Turkish giants Galatasaray, who are ready to offer him a bumper deal to lure him to the club.
Sagna is yet to sign a contract extension at the Emirates, which has alerted his suitors about his situation now that he is in the final six months of his stay and eligible to negotiate with other clubs. As a result,
Gala have entered the scene with an intention to take him aboard, with the club offering him a mouth-watering £4.1m-a-year tax free four-year deal, which is a considerable improvement on his £3.6m-a-year taxed earnings.
The reports come as a huge shock to Arsenal, who are themselves only offering a two-year extension at the most, and that too without the promise of a salary hike. Galatasaray’s offering means that the Gunners will have to improve their offer considerably, else risk losing the player who on his day is considered as one of the best in his role in Europe. It also means that the north Londoners need to step up their chase for a replacement for the veteran soon, as this could well be his last season at the club.
